Most interesting fish for fly fisherman in Estonia is brown trout. It is very common in rivers of Estonia. It inhabitants in more than 90 rivers. Brown trout lives in fast-running streams and also in slower clear creeks. Most effective time for trout-fishing is from late April to mid-September. Middle-Estonia is rich with spring-rivers – they don’t freeze at all in winter. It is possible to fish year-around on those rivers. Best time for fly fishing is mayfly season: from the end of May to the half of June. You get best results in trout-fishing in early morning and in evenings. But in July it is very interesting and effective to fish during the night-time. Exfoliation of caddis larva’s makes fish very active during the night time. Ide
Comparably similar with Chub and same interesting fish for fly fisher. Id is very common in several Estonia rivers. Id inhabits frequently in brown trout rivers. Best time for fishing Id is from early spring to late summer. FACTS:
Chub
Chub is very beautiful and interesting fish. Chub is very strong and smart- that makes this fish very gamey for fly fisherman. In rivers of South- Estonia Chub is very common and its population is high. Best time for chub-fishing is spring and early summer also in August and in September. From the middle of May to mid of June Chub is in rapids. On that time that fish bites fly very eagerly. Chub fishing in scenic rivers of South- Estonia is real pleasure. FACTS:
Sea troutLives in the sea, usually in coastal areas, but spawns in rivers. Sea trout is usual catch in most of coast areas, but even more often it is caught in rivers. Sea trout spawns in fast- running rivers. There are about 15 river in Estonia, where sea trout spawns. Most of then are located on the northern coast of Estonia. Population of sea trout has been quite stable in recent years. Sea trout’s menu usually consists of small fishes. Best time for catching a sea trout is in late march and in April- may. Also from September to December. As sea trout is migrant fish in rivers, any time of day is equally good for sea-trout fishing. In autumn you need additional license if you want to do sea trout-fishing on rivers, but it is allowed to catch a sea trout in sea all year long without special license. Northern Pike
Pike is most widespread fish in Estonia. It is almost impossible to find lake or river, where isn’t pike. Population of pike has been stable and high over many decades. Pike can survive almost everywhere, even in those ponds, which freezes till the bottom during winter season. Pike’s menu contains usually smaller fishes, frogs and lobsters, but sometimes bigger pikes attacks even birds. Pike fishing is one the most simple, but also very enjoyable way of spending your free time. In Estonia pike spawns in April. After the spawn, which usually end in the beginning of May, begins best time of the year for fly fisher, who likes pike fishing. Also good time for catching a pike, is from the end of the September till the icing of water bodies. FACTS:
Grayling
Grayling is very common in some Estonian streams. In recent years, population of grayling has noticeably increased. In some rivers, catching more than 20 graylings per day is quite common. It likes rivers with clean, cool and transparent water, but there must be some rapids. Grayling’s menu consists of insects, small fishes and also many kinds of larva’s. Best time for catching grayling is from May to August. Best time of day for fishing is probably evening. Grayling fishing is one of the most enjoyable fishing experiences. Unfortunately, grayling fishing is prohibited in Estonia, but catch and release-type of fishing is still allowed. FACTS:
